New from our farm. 

White & Gray Wool Yarn from Burr Oak Farm
  

Each year a number of our fleeces are selected to be sent to fiber processing mills to be spun into yarn. The fleeces are carefully skirted and vegetable matter is removed. They are then carefully washed by hand using gentle detergents. The yarn we offer for sale has been spun with care at StoneHedge Mill in Michigan and Blue Hills Fiber Mill in northern Wisconsin.  No harsh chemicals of any kind have been used in the processing of the wool. We offer both natural colored yarn, yarns dyed using chemical dyes, and yarns dyed using Japanese Indigo grown on our farm. Please check out our offerings below. Here's our offering of white and natural colored yarns. These are durable yarns spun from long stapled fleeces, they take dye very well and are excellent for felting. Yarn is sold by the skein and contains the yardage as measured at the mill.  The weights listed are approximate.

This is worsted weight yarn, 11 WPI from our colored Border Leicester x Coopworth ewes. It is a choolate-brown bouncey yarn excellent for outerwear and felting. The six ounce skeins contain 250 yards and are $14.70/skein plus shipping and approrpriate tax.

 

Hand Dyed Yarns

The yarns pictured below have been hand dyed using chemical dyes. These are not "space-dyed" yarns. They have been dyed so as to be completely variable throughout the skein, that is the colors vary from dark to pale and shade into each other. These are unique!

  

Berry Bliss. This is worsted weight yarn, 11 WPI, from Alvin, our Coopworth x Border Leicester ram. This hand dyed yarn is totally variable in color throughout the skein from blueberry to raspberry. Available are 2 (5.3 oz.) skeins containing approximately 190 yds at $14.84/skein and 2 (5.5 oz.) skeins approximately 190 yds at $15.40 + shipping and appropriate tax.
  Dahlia Dreams. This is worsted weight yarn, 11 WPI, from Alvin, our Coopworth x Border Leicester ram. This hand dyed yarn is totally variable in color throughout the skein from spring green to raspberry. Available are 3 (5.6 oz.) skeins containing approximately 190 yds at $15.90/skein and 1 (5 oz.) skein approximately 175 yds at $14.00 + shipping and appropriate tax.


Yarn Dyed with Japanese Indigo

WE ARE CURRENTLY SOLD OUT ON OUR INDIGO DYED YARNS. Please check back in the Fall when we expect to have a resupply.

Late in the summer when the Japanese Indigo is ready to be harvested I collect the leaves and start dyeing. Each skein has been dyed seperately so the color ranges from a steel-gray blue to a dark navy.

Nancy's Yarn Dyed with Japanese Indigo   This is worsted weight yarn, 12 WPI, from Nancy, a Border Leicester X Lincoln ewe. One 4 oz., 200 yd. skeins remains. Price is $8.80/skein + shipping.
  This is worsted weight yarn, 11 WPI, from Penny, a Coopworth x Border Leicester ewe. Skein weigft is 6 oz. containing 250 yds. Price is $15.00/skein + shipping.
  This is worsted weight yarn, 13 WPI, from Alvin, our Coopworth x Border Leicester ram. This is hand dyed yarn using Japanese Indigo. The skeins vary in weight from 5.5 to 5.75 oz. and contain from 230 - 250 yds. Price is $13.00 or $15.00 based on weight and yardage + shipping and appropriate tax.
  This is worsted weight yarn, 12 WPI, soft lambs wool. This is hand dyed yarn using Japanese Indigo, the color is like that of faded blue jeans. The skeins weigh 4 oz. and contain from 220 yds. Price is $10.00 + shipping and appropriate tax.
